Quilt it Foam and Fabric Panels
Custom quilted foam panels to make bags with your favourite fabrics really is the holy grail of handmade. Foam is a very popular stabiliser for bag making and very easy to work with. It is very forgiving in seam allowances unlike more structured stabilisers, yet it still gives the bag enough structure to stand upright. You can also use craft wadding which is a batting like stabiliser but thicker and stiffer than standard quilt batting. It's a great option if you want a slouchy look in your projects or need the bag to lay flat or fold. If you are looking to make sneakers, foam is the best option. You might also want to look at the foam fat quarters that are prequilted to buy in my shop. They are the perfect size for sneakers.

Quilted panels are priced based on the stabiliser used. Finished panel sizes are dependant to the stabilisers and WOF.
-
Fabric and backing supplied by the customer.
-
Backing must be min WOF, preferably with selvedge intact as additional leaders need to be attached to quilt panels. Price includes additional leaders and loading.

Note: Finished quilted panels will be slightly smaller than your original fabric dimensions. When quilting, fabrics pull in and contract approximately 3%, but the density of foam slightly increases stitch contraction. In addition, selvedge is an advantage when quilting foam, craft and vinyl panels but this isn't a usable area. Keep this in mind when planning your fabric/stabiliser requirements with your pattern and make sure you have enough ‘safe zone’ so you don't end up short for your project.
