Batting and Thread
Batting
I supply the highest quality Matilda's Own Batting. You have a selection of batting to choose from and it's sold to longarm customers at a discount to ensure they are getting the best price, as I don't accept outside batting. This makes shipping much cheaper for customers using mail service as the bulk is only being shipped on return of your quilt.

Batting is cut to the size of your quilt when loading. This keeps the batting in the best condition possible prior to quilting. Any excess width of batting you have paid for will be returned with your finished quilt. Make sure you keep your offcuts because you can join pieces with a batting fusing tape (you can order this through me). If you are joining battings with a scrim, ensure the scrim is always facing the same way and your are joining pieces of the same type together.

What is Scrim?
A scrim is a very fine, barely-there layer of stabilising mesh. It helps hold all those lovely fibres together, giving the wadding a bit more strength and structure without adding noticeable weight or thickness. It's the structure that keeps everything in place and makes the product much easier to care for.

Tips for selecting the right batting
Batting has a recommended quilting distance. When choosing your batting, keep in mind the products recommended quilting density and how dense you want your quilting. Stable battings can accommodate quilting further apart. These battings generally include scrim and are machine washable, so a good option for quilts that will have high use and laundering. Less stable batting requires denser quilting and may bunch or separate without dense stitching to maintain its structure. These are generally hand wash only and need proper care. So if it's a child's quilt and will be washed regularly in the washing machine, it must contain a stable batting to last years of love.
So now you can see how important the correct choice and quality of batting is for your quilt, you can understand why I will not accept poor quality or other brands of batting. I work with what I know and trust.
Thread.
There is no additional charge for thread. I use a selection of premium longarm threads including So Fine, Bottom Line, Omni, Micro Quilter and Signature. All types of quilting require different types of thread. Colours are generally selected to blend with the quilt top and what contrast you wish to achieve. Note, bobbin thread is matched to the top thread. I will not contrast threads to match backings so keep this in mind when selecting your backing fabric.
